Noite Longa

Synopsis — 2006 archive
Like a loop in time, oral knowledge is passed down from one generation to the next, like this raft crossing the bottomless lagoon, with these teenagers telling us the stories of their ancestors, in their own way and in keeping with their time.
I come from a farming family and was born in a “Fribourg” town in Brazil, a few hours from Rio de Janeiro. Today I feel the need to question my father about my roots and about the stories — true or imagined — that accompanied my childhood.
During my last trip to Brazil, about a year ago, while visiting my grandmother, I spoke with her at length. Her wish was to recount, together with my father, memories of “her time”, and to travel back through time by returning to the places of her youth.
Noite Longa (Long Night) will evoke the years lived through by my grandmother, through the stories of my father, his sisters and the contemporaries who knew her.
